Yeesh, that's still not much. My first year there were somewhere upwards of 200 (maybe 300) PEOPLE there...and about half(?) were Survivors...
Oh, the Time Warp. Prone to be done at any time during activity time, meals, or anywhere in between. Speaking of which, I assume (by now) some people have pulled out the "WHAT TIME IS IT?!" chant...right?
Well, we hope. I'd probably be too hyped up on adrenaline to notice at that point.
The last day is nothing short of a...well, I'll let you figure that one out when you get there.
Oh, OK. Wow, that's not a lot of Survivors at all...
Apparently so, 'cause I don't remember any henna while I've been there. I *do* remember, though, some rather interesting showings of Rocky Horror...not that I actually sat through it, mind you.
Survivors? Cruel? Oh no, my dear, we take that title in full stride. XD
Too much to take in AND too much moving around. If it was FS I wouldn't have minded the moving around so much, but it's not, and it's much less exciting.
Believe me, you won't want the second week to end, and you'll be at a loss when it eventually does.
Yeah, he kept telling me he was going back and was rather distraught when he found out that I wasn't. Who else from that contingent is back, anyway?
See, I TOLD you the henna would be popular... XD
Ah, so Micah dropped by...I would if I wasn't so freakin' far away. Curse those Georgians and their proximity...and I love how we're now referred to as "alumni". Haha.
I haven't been up to much, really. Just some dorm shopping while I'm here in California to leave at my grandmother's house so I don't have to lug it home to NOLA and back to SoCal later. My mind isn't quite working properly today, so my memory's a little weird right now...
Oh, the Greeks. Haha, I figured they'd be back. FS had one person from Germany and one from Canada come a couple of years ago, but they seemed to have disappeared...and I'm glad I'm "remembered" over there, somewhat. You sound like you're enjoying yourself, though, so that's good. Sorry I haven't responded in a while...I've been without computer access for the last four days.
I don't have a Twitter and don't plan to get one. It's just a cheap knockoff of the Facebook status bar, and people, I think, shouldn't know what I'm doing at every hour of the day.
Virginia's where they tend to put the rest of the girls, though, aside from the sorority houses. At least they didn't put you in the Guest House--one, you're not male, and two, it's one hell of a walk from there to Crudup. (That's where they put me my first two years until I *finally* got Van Hoose my last year. Made things so much easier.)
Well, there used to be an ice cream joint called "The Scoop", but that closed down two years ago...other than that, no.
Well, have fun! And believe them when they say it's the best two weeks of your life...if my blog posts are any indication, they certainly were for me.
Oh, definitely. And it's a good piece of advice, and I guess it works. Fast talking may actually help if I need to rush a segment that's running behind, I guess...
Heh, you should've seen them when the power went out later that week. In the middle of a (different) game, no less...
As for going 24/7, you're going to be doing a lot of that at camp, believe me.
Well, let's just say it wasn't easy at first. I was especially terrified, considering I've played piano for seven years and am accustomed to knowing what's next. But hell, it's Firespark!, I told myself, no one cares how it sounds, only that they're hearing stuff that just happens to sound good.
Oh yeah, I'll occasionally slip into a British accent when I'm ticked off at someone. And then it gets ugly. XD
Somebody, I'm sure, usually does. Which reminds me--TOMORROW!
Yeesh, I feel weird saying that when I'm not even going...
I remember when Drew Carey became host of The Price is Right, he was saying that one of the things Bob Barker told him was to do the show how Drew Carey would do it, not how Barker would. That's what I try to remember, and perhaps that's where it comes from.
Of course, then I run into the problem of tripping over my words when I'm talking that fast.
Ah, yes, Press Your Luck. That was hilarious...they'd sit there raising their hands after I asked the question and I'm thinking "I only understand a buzz-in." The ending was kinda anti-climactic, but hey. Then again, these were about 6th-8th graders...
Well, that's why they call it improv, my dear. The first few parts were a part of the song, but when individual people played, that was spur of the moment. I loved it.
Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I think you're right. XD
Well, thanks. I hope to do well, anyway. And even though I haven't seen much of what you do yet, I'm sure the same goes for you too.
Face to voice is always a good thing. So when do I get to hear yours? XD
Regarding the fast talking, I think I've figured it out; I tend to get too caught up in the moment, and my words are naturally fast anyway.
"Younger crowd more rowdy than the Jeopardy?" Huh?
I had a ton of fun doing that one. Nikolas (the guy who stood up at the grand piano) kept freaking out backstage, which only made it even funnier. I do admit, though, that I *was* caught off-guard when Rob (the director) pointed to me for the first solo. "Huh? ME?! Well, okay..."
Could've been either, really. I think it was on purpose for a little bit.
Both, really. It's still rewarding either way.
Drama/Acting...well, you either love it or not. Granted, I was a fairly recent convert to that area. But if it's not for you, there's plenty of other fish in the pond. You seem to like visual arts and the like--there's plenty of that. And the people in that field are REALLY nice.
I'm glad you like my Jeopardy! game. I was dealing with a mostly rowdy group that day, so I'm glad you think it's "professional". Though looking back at it, I need to slow down when I'm talking...
I hope you saw the Music Improv video...that's what I was a part of last year. You'll get a little bit of that when the performances start in the second week.
It's really weird; for a while I think I actually TALKED just like him.
I never did make up any of my lost sleep, but it's just as well that I didn't. I may have been jetlagged about 3 hours but I never noticed the whole time I was there. As one of my friends said (something to the effect of): "Firespark!: It's like an acid trip, but longer and safer."
Oh, millet spray. Practically the only thing Sweetybird would eat. Probably because we gave her way too much of it in the beginning. Ha!
Yes, stage makeup is a class. Those who take it get to do all these horrid-looking cuts, gunshot wounds, and other gruesome injuries on other people.
Well, I have a YouTube channel...my username's InfernoCouchemar, which is a hybrid of the titles of the Firespark stage combat pieces I was a part of. ("Inferno", simply, for the one last year, and "Carnivale Couchemar" for the one the year before that.) Check it out when you have the chance.
Random searching. I didn't believe it at first but then I saw another source that backed it up. Now I can brag about it...even though 9 out of 10 people don't know who I'm talking about.
I remember last year...I couldn't sleep the day before 'cause I was so excited. And then I get to the airport and have to wait about 4-5 hours.
Well, if that's the case with the keets, then I don't think you have to worry too much...barring any kind of freak accident, anyway.
If I had to do it again? I WOULDN'T do it again. XD
Seriously, though, I think I could manage...at least "no water" wasn't part of it.
You're telling me. I think Orientation only served to make me more anxious to start.
Trust me, my first year when I saw people that had come from that class I thought something *actually* happened to them. But yeah, I don't remember any henna going on while I'd been there.
